Allergies

allergy

An allergy is an abnormal immunological response to a substance that is not usually harmful. While mild allergy is body's normal defense reaction to foreign body and is gone away itself, some allergies are severe enough to make people sick and even threaten a person's life. Allergens include pollen, dust, mold, some chemicals, animal hair, insects, food additives and some of foods, etc. Common symptoms are itchy and swelling eyes, nasal congestion and sneezing, coughing, hives and skin rashes. Over the past 30 years, allergies have been increasing and widespread in developed countries. It is estimated that 36 millions of Americans are suffering from allergic rhinitis and 21 millions of American infants under 3 have food allergies. It is unclear why the rate of getting allergies is increasing in 30 years.

Chinese medicine and Allergies

Chinese medicine recognized allergies thousands years ago. Chinese medicine understands that allergies can be caused by different factors and, a practitioner of acupuncture and hebral medicine may work on removing airborne particles, improving digestive function for food allergies and regulate your emotion state for mental factor, while it is trying to get instant relief from acute allergic symptoms. This causes-oriented approach produces sustainable therapeutic effect rather than focusing on symptoms like chemical medications.

How we successfully treat allergies

Some allergens such as animal hair and foods can be eliminated from your life, but some of them such as airborne substance are not avoidable. Both antihistamine and steroids are common medical treatments for acute allergic reaction, but they are not suitable for long-term treatments of allergies due to side effects. On the other hand, allergy manifests differently on your health states. While you are truly healthy, your body is capable of eliminating allergens quickly and you feel normal. Even though there is allergic reaction, the symptoms are mild.

At A1 Clinique Chinoise, our experienced practitioners work closely with your medical specialists to help you copy with your allergic symptoms, and have underlying factors addressed. These underlying factors include your stress level, your general health state, your aliments, and your living environment, etc. In order to manage allergies and prevent them from recurring, we will achieve following objectives:

A treatment course of allergy requires 6-10 visits in 5 weeks, while seasonal allergies require 4-8 sessions of treatment every season for 3 or more seasons to gradually decrease allergic reactions. Treatment will involve acupuncture and/or Chinese herbs.
